What actually makes a business website work

Most websites are judged on how they look. Businesses should judge them on what they do: explain the offer, build trust and produce enquiries.

Cet article n'est actuellement publié qu'en anglais. Il n'est pas indexé sur les autres marchés tant qu'une véritable version localisée n'existe pas.

Clarity before decoration

A visitor decides whether to continue within seconds. If the first screen does not answer what you do, who it is for and what to do next, visual quality cannot compensate. Write the offer as a sentence before designing anything.

One primary action per page

Every page should have a single dominant next step. Competing calls-to-action dilute attention and reduce enquiries. Secondary actions are allowed, but they should look secondary.

Structure is a business asset

Information architecture decides how easily a visitor and a search engine understand the business. Group services the way clients think about them, not the way the company is organised internally.

Speed is part of the message

Perceived quality collapses when a page hesitates. Performance budgets, restrained JavaScript and correctly sized imagery matter more than any animation.

Measure the right thing

Traffic is not the objective. Enquiries, qualified conversations and completed sales are. Configure measurement around those events from the first release.
